The Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change has notified rules regarding possession and breeding of exotic domesticated wildlife. 

These rules are framed under Section 49M of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. 

Accordingly, it has been made mandatory for the keepers of exotic animals protected under ‘CITES’ in category 4 of the 'Wildlife Protection Act' to register them.
