The Government of Tamil Nadu has declared recording the electricity Consumption on Smart Meters from March onwards.

TANGEDCO (Tamil; Nadu Generation and Distribution Company) has fixed static power consumption meters to read the power consumption of all domestic connections.  The staff from TANGEDCO every once in 2 months take the consumption reading from these energy meters. In this system, TANGEDCO has faced huge losses due to complaints such as the TANGEDCO staff taking readings on their timing instead of the scheduled time, delayed meter reading noting, etc.

To eliminate these difficulties as well as the effort of taking readings from house to house, the government has brought up the new initiative of Smart Meters in the state. This process will carry on with a linked software to the servers of the board.
