Police have decided not to allow long-distance buses on VIP Road during the festive period in Kolkata. They will be re-routed via New Town-Rajarhat-Haldirams from next week from 26th September.

If required, other vehicles too will be diverted via New Town. We will be on a hotline with Bidhannagar Police in this respect,” said an officer at Lalbazar. It has also been decided that Bidhannagar Police will write to the railways, requesting them to introduce galloping facility at Bidhannagar station during the peak evening hours.

Kolkata Traffic Police, meanwhile, has decided to deploy men in three shifts at the major puja complexes from 2pm on Chaturthi. Cops will be on duty till 8am the next morning at major crowd-pulling zones like New Alipore and Hatibagan.

At other important puja clusters, like Behala and Sovabazar, traffic police will be posting
sergeants at the closest crossing to ensure that the main crossings are managed
seamlessly.

All traffic restrictions will kick in between 3pm and 4pm in the city from Chaturthi (there will be restriction at certain roads even on Tritiya) and continue till Navami. There will be additional restrictions for immersions on Dashami and Ekadashi. Cops have decided to keep the normal traffic flow till 3pm-4pm each day before switching to the puja plans.
